Week 1 - Lets go!

Monday - Weighed in and took waist and chest measurements.  These are the two areas where I hope to lose some inches.  They have always been my problem areas.  Weight wasn't as high as I thought it would be but also kind of where I expected it to be. Also...MCT oil is the bomb...lots of energy!

Tuesday - Weight higher than Monday but we aren't going to let that get us down.

Wednesday - Weight down 3 pounds from the weigh in on Tuesday.  Nice to see that.  However I was up twice in the night to go pee!  Also getting out of bed I got a major cramp in my leg.  I ended up taking a salt drink as I think that's the reason why I got it.  Hopefully there's not to much of this cause that cramp was painful. Worst I've had in my life!

Thursday - Weight down almost 2 pounds...but not quite.  This would be the lowest that I saw the scale.  While I kept keto during this time it was also when I didn't keep as good of records because our oldest boy came down with Covid (although I wonder if the test was a false negative). But I was home from work on Thursday and Friday.  This was also the first time running as keto and after a race I had the previous weekend.  Was about 35 minutes long and on a treadmill...felt harder than it should have but I think this is to be expected as the body adjusts to using fat rather than carbs.

Saturday - Went running again.  Outside.  Went a bit longer but also felt like it was more work than it should have been.  Stepped on the scale and I was about up from the low I had seen on Thursday...like 4 pounds higher.  Wasn't to concerned about it as I know the weight will go up and it will go down.

Monday (today) - Weight was down again but not as low as Thursday.  So I'm not talking about up and down and can give people a bit more concrete ideas of where I'm at I'll use the actual numbers.  I started out on 8/29/2022 at 217.6.  When I weighed in this morning I was at 215.4.  So a lost of slightly over 2 pounds.  I've been pretty strict keto for the whole time.  I've had a few berries here and there but I'd say I've been under 75 grams of carbs every day.  I also went for a run this morning, it was fricking hot, and it felt the best out of any of the runs I've been on since going keto.  Might just be an abnormality but we will see.  I think I'll be running on the treadmill tomorrow morning.

Summary

So far so good but it's been a week.  We have had some keto treats in the house that I'd like to cut down on but they are nice to have.  What I'm really craving...is fruit.  A nice juicy apple sounds so good.  I'll probably have one later this week.  Currently it does take a bit more thinking than just grabbing whatever is in the pantry but in the end I think it will be worth it.  If I can get through this 215 mark I'll be happy.  I expect to see that later this week and hopefully stay there.  My wife has also lost a few pounds and is lower than she has been in a long time.  So hopefully by me doing this it is helping her too.

On the running I'm not doing MAF running.  I'm staying in Zone 1 according to Stryd (power meter).  I think this is okay but my heart rate has been a bit higher than I'd want it.  I hope that will shift and it will be something that I watch.  The last 2 times I've looked my heart rate has been 145.  In the past when I'd do easy runs my heart rate would be in the 130's.  So we will see.
