Half Marathon - March 24th

It's been awhile but I wanted to get this out more for myself than anything.

This Sunday the 24th is my half marathon.  Starting off the year with this race.  I'm not considering it an A race by any stretch of the imagination.  It was more of a race that I was using to keep active through the winter.

On reflection I'm not sure it was the best idea.  My time might have been better spent doing some training and maybe pushing things a little more.  However I did run the longest I've run in a couple of years which I think is needed.  Having said that I didn't do anything that got me close to a half marathon distance. So Sunday will be interesting to see how it goes.

My goal is to try and run somewhere around 12:30 to 12 minute miles.  The one thing I have going for me is that this race is at a slightly lower elevation but not much. I'm fairly confident in this because on my last long run outside I was just just running fairly slowly and it was at a 11:55 pace.  Although looking at some calculator's my 12:30 pace is a lot slower than what I've done on my previous half marathon (which was at a higher elevation and was quite a slog...I finished that in approx. 2:48:00...I'd like to beat that time!) The other thing I'm going to be watching is my heart rate and making sure that it doesn't climb to high in the first half of the race.  I would like to see the heart rate stay below 150 if at all possible.  If I could keep that for the first 10 miles I think that would be great. After that I can go a bit more.  I haven't really followed power a whole lot on this "build" but looking at the calculator I should be looking to maintain a power of 255 and that's predicting a time of 2:24:19.

It's going to be interesting because I'm not sure what's going to happen but I'm excited about it.  I'm also trying my best to not over think it and just run happy!

But after the half I'll report back and I will start posting more of what's going to happen to the few weeks after this half marathon.
